I received an advance copy of Love After 50 from the publisher with agreement to write an honest review. Here’s the bottom line: This book will be an “evergreen,” one people keep on a shelf for ready reference again and again. If you’re over fifty and single (or even if you partnered late), this book could change your life. As a former widow who married again in my seventies, I could resonate with so much – knowing yourself and what you want and need, awareness of the brevity of time, telling your children, creating healthy relationships with stepchildren, choosing the right living arrangement for you. There’s an amazing (and encouraging) chapter on having great senior sex. I was blessed to marry a friend my husband and I’d known for a long time, so I never explored on-line dating. But if an appropriate partner is hard to find, that section alone is worth the price of the book! (The difference in dating sites, writing an appealing bio and choosing a photo, how to recognize a con, how to stay safe, where to meet, what to wear and talk about (and avoid) on a first date. How to say “not interested” graciously), how to handle disappointment … everything you ever wondered about on-line dating is here. Russo’s format includes true stories (including her own two marriages and several relationships) and boxed sections with “how-to” hints. I’m ordering copies for friends and a close relative. It’s that good.
